Dr. John Yu to Speak at Palm Sunday

Dr John Yu, Chancellor of the University of NSW, 1996 Australian of the Year, Companion of the Order of Australia, distinguished community leader and former chief executive of the New Children’s Hospital has joined the list of speakers at the Palm Sunday March.

Dr. Yu who come to Australia as a refugee will be joining other notable speakers including Labor Council Secretary John Robertson, former Whitlam Minister Tom Uren, author Lydia Miller, Sister Susan Connelly (Sisters of Mary McKilliop) and former Senator Jo Vallentine.

Many community, religious and political leaders will also be participating in the March which will start at Belmore Park (in front of Central Station) at midday (Sunday March 24).

They will march silently down Broadway to Victoria Park for a joint concert and festival with the Walk Against Want involving entertainment from Lazy Susan, Coda, Astro Tabasco, Frank Bennett and The Café at the Gates of Salvation.

Organisers have resurrected the traditional day of action for peace to call for a more compassionate attitude towards refugees and asylum seekers.

The Palm Sunday Committee is convened by former ALP Senator Bruce Childs, Rev. Ray Richmond (Wayside Chapel) and Alison Lyssa (The Greens).
