World says NO to Iraq war

28 November 2002
318 organizations and parliamentarians from around the world have written to President Bush, Tony Blair, and to the Russian, German, French, Canadian, and Australian governments urging a peaceful solution to the Iraq crisis, and urging that the nuclear weapons states, especially the US, take a good hard look at their own massive weapons of mass destruction arsenals.

The signatories include the Anglican Church worldwide with 73 million
members, the 1985 nobel-prizewinning International Physicians for the
Prevention of Nuclear War (who helped write the letter), Friends of the
Earth International, the International Association of Lawyers Against
Nuclear Arms, the International Peace Bureau, and 70 members of
parliaments from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, Egypt, Russia,
Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Ghana, and the Europarliament.

The letter is to be launched at the media centre in the NSW Parliament at a
press conference hosted by Arthur-Chesterfield-Evans, by Friends of the
Earth Australia nuclear weapons campaigner John Hallam.

The event is part of the leadup to the Walk Against The War. A further
press conference will take place on Thursday 28 Nov., featuring John
Pilger, actor John Howard, and others.

The Walk Against War will take place on Sat Nov. 30 12 noon from the Town
Hall, proceeding to the Domain. Speakers include John Pilger, Bishop Pat
Power, Sheikh Al Hilali, John Howard (the actor), Jenny Morris, Judy Davis,
and Dr. Sue Wareham.
